For the initiative of NRDIO – National Research Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH), the best research sites and infrastructure networks of Hungary were collected within the “TOP 50” excellent research infrastructure tender, in order to provide international visibility and more opportunities for international research collaborations to them. CERS Databank has became eligible for using the „Excellent Research Infrastructure” title.
The harmonized data of Kirstat are now available for 2020. Attention! There is a significant change in the data from 2020 as the majority of institutions, students and teachers in the vocational education and training are now administered in the System of Vocational Education (SZIR), thus do not appear in Kirstat. However there is still available data of those who remained in the vocational public education (as: vocational high school).
On the procedure of requiring access to the data please contact adatkeres@krtk.hu. In case of any problem or deficiency about the database please contact adatbank@krtk.hu.
How to research a rich Hungarian database: Interview with the Director of the CERS databank, GLO Fellow János Köllő.
The Databank staff gladly congratulates László Lovász, who, as former president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, generously supported the Databank’s operation and the build-up of its up-to-date infrastructure.
For users of the Research Room
Background. The Research Room (RR) is jointly operated by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (CSO) and the Databank of the Center for Economic and Regional Sciences (CERS). The CCTV controlled RR is available for projects led by researchers of the CERS and the Center for Social Sciences. Other researchers are also eligible as approved project participants, including assistants. Any output produced in the RR must go through an output checking procedure conducted by the CSO. Copying data from the servers and computer screens is strictly forbidden.
Access for referees. In case a referee wants to check the data and the computations, the Databank starts a Referee Project in which the referee acts as a project participant. The referee can work in the RR personally or by hiring a local assistant. The required data will be uploaded to the personal folder of the referee. The name of the referees and assistants are kept confidential and will not be shared with the authors.
Access for replication. The person willing to replicate the results can join the author’s project and attend the RR in person.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For server users
Background. In the case of several datasets, the Databank is not authorized to share the data with third parties. In these cases, we ensure access for referees and replicants in the following ways.
Access for referees. In case a referee wants to check the data and the computations, the Databank opens a Referee Folder at one of its servers. The required data will be uploaded to this folder; the referee can work with them on-line and request the Databank to copy and send the output to her/him. The name of the referee will be kept confidential and will not be shared with the authors. Copying the data and sharing them with a third party is strictly forbidden. Referees can initiate the opening of a folder by writing to adatkeres@krtk.mta.hu.
Access for replication. The person willing to replicate the results can require access to the data by contacting the authors. The authors can initiate the inclusion of the replicant to their project.
For further information, contact the Databank: adatkeres@krtk.mta.hu

For empirical territorial research concerning Hungary, the Statistical Database System of Settlements (T-STAR – Hungarian acronym) is the information source with the richest content and the highest level of territorial breakdown. The T-STAR has been managed by the Hun-garian Central Statistical Office (HCSO) since 1975. The T-STAR is an electronic database, existing only in computer files. The system described here is standardized and controlled by The Institute of Economics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (IEHAS). It con-tains all the settlement level data collected or received by the HCSO in yearly breakdown from 1990 onwards. Some data from the Popula-tion Census 1990 and 2001 that was processed at settlement level and the so called number sign system of the HCSO are also inte-grated into T-STAR.
The Hungarian Labour Force Survey (HU-LFS) is a continuous, quarterly survey of households conducted by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO). It provides information on the employment and unemployment experience of the Hungarian’s population. The HU-LFS contains demographic characteristics of each respondent, and a wide range of data on labour market status and related topics such as training, qualifications, disability. The data set contains data of 60,000-90,000 people, depending on year and quarter. The database is accessible from 1th quarter 1992 to 1th quarter 2012 in harmonised format.
